Building the Pipeline to the Health Professions

Welcome to the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Urban Health Program (UHP), the flagship for moving forward the mission to increase minorities within the field of health professions and health sciences. The ultimate goal of our program is to train a cadre of undergraduate health professionals dedicated to addressing persistent health disparities in minority populations and improving the quality and availability of healthcare in underserved urban areas.

UHP's Mission
UHP’s mission is to recruit, retain, and graduate underrepresented racial/ethnic minority students, specifically African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans, in the health professions. UHP seeks to expand educational and research opportunities for these populations, at all academic levels, including pre-college students, in order to develop underrepresented racial/ethnic minority healthcare professionals, faculty and researchers with the goals of eliminating health disparities and advancing health equity.
